“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

Mathew 26:39
  • A specific word of caution for certain disciples in our various fellowships….

Dear Disciple,

Is it really true that what GOD cannot do does not exist? (the most common slogan now)
Answer clearly is YES. GOD is amongst many innumerable things: THE ALMIGHTY!!
Understand though that the issue has never really been about GOD. But rather about us!
More specifically about you!

What GOD cannot do does not exist, of course not! BUT WHAT GOD WILL NOT DO DOES EXIST!!!!
Its a very very crucial distinction which we must understand and accept if we must become overcomers.
For one thing GOD is guided by His character and nature which is perfect in integrity always.
Another thing is that GOD always makes decisions in line with His divine purpose which is eternal and overarching!

From our reading in Mathew 26:29, Jesus went into the garden of gethsemane overburdened and overwhelmed.
If there was ever any one who had the most legitimate cause it was Christ. And we know from the word [John 11:42] that Jesus was always in the Father’s perfect will and as such there was nothing He ever requested in prayer that was not granted Him. He was never rejected, ignored or refused! Except this one time in gethsemane! Jesus prayed and all He received was silence!!!

Jesus ‘went a little further’

We have been taught over the years about the law of ‘the extra mile’ and what that helps us accomplish in our faith walk. But there are certain situations and circumstances where going a little further (in sacrifice, in giving, in service, in anything) will yield no response from GOD especially when it is outside of His eternal purpose in and through you.

and fell on His face

Jesus fell on His face out of the weight and burden. Many of us including myself don’t even fall on our faces enough. But many times when we desire something so bad we become dramatic – pray naked, cast ourselves on the earth, cover our heads with ashes and put on sackcloth. And when our hearts are truly genuine and repentant GOD takes pity on us. But there are times when no amount of dramatics will get us anything more than silence!!! And well thank GOD for that!

O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me

What GOD cannot do does not exists indeed. Ask yourself this though:

Could GOD have taken away “this cup” that was the cross from Jesus?. Yes is the answer!! But did he?

Hearken to this understanding: GOD WILL NOT SPARE YOU FROM THE CROSS!

In certain specific issues (you need to discern which is which) No amount of prayer, No amount of prophecy from the diverse number of prophets you visit, No amount of giving on your part will ever make you the exception! In so far as GOD has made you His own and determined to see His purpose fulfilled in you, you are merely prolonging the dealings!

I once prayed for years over a particular issue that really troubled me. One day during prayer meeting the LORD spoke to me and said “Son, I am less interested in what you want to become (your ambition) and more interested in who you are to become (your character)” It was a painful answer to receive because i had spent so long going ‘a little further’ to see GOD look upon me favorably in this thing, but that day i knew what this meant! No amount of prayer or activities was going to spare me from His dealings. And until He is done and satisfied, i’m not really going anywhere except in circles!

nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Old testament or not, Samuel’s word to Saul still stands true till this very day.

“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams”. 1 Sam 15:22

Disciple. In somethings what you need is not prayer or prophecies or anything else. But rather TOTAL SUBMISSION to the will and dealings of GOD in Obedience!

In some of our specific cases what we truly really needed to know from the Lord is:-

“Lord, is this Cup from you? If so what do i need to learn from this and where do i need to stop resisting you?”

Not saying you cannot be part of any prayer group or join any new movement, you are free to. If it helps you jumpstart your prayer life or add more energy to it, ride on! BUT search your heart to see if your motive is to use it as a ‘get out of jail free-card’ from this specific trial you are passing through. In that way lies Self-Deception! There are some things ONLY THE CROSS is the key. Some of us just jump on every new fad and movement because its the ‘inn thing’. True Christianity doesn’t work like this.

It is in our very human nature to want to avoid pain and suffering and trials. if we could bribe our way out of it, we would in an instant. As I’ve told you on occasion, i spent many years visiting this prophet and that pastor giving gifts in hopes that someone will pray me out of my cross or at least reduce it by a few inches. It was a waste of time!

One of the greatest service a prophet/pastor can render you is to point you to the area where you need to yield to His dealing per season. Then you just need to repent, flat out kill your pride and yield yourself to His surgical sword.

GOD cannot be bribed, God cannot be pressured, God cannot be enticed, God cannot be guilted into anything.

Again this warning is not for everyone. But i see that some of us have completely subsumed our personal devotions and prayer times with GOD into this reigning online prayer meeting time and are under the delusion that it is sufficient. I will always encourage you to drink and dine from many sources but let nothing or no-one overthrow your personal devotion time with GOD. (This goes for those of you who attend activities laden churches also).

You still need to hear Him for yourself and there are times when you still need to be silent, lock yourself away and wait on Him personally. There is no magic wand when it concerns His dealings.

One colour doth not a rainbow make!

A word is enough for the wise!

Grace to you!
