For the benefit of those of you who didn’t make the meeting. We discussed on Regret, it wasn’t so much a teaching as it was a close discussion but it’s something that seems to be coming up in counseling’s a lot [certain personality types seem more prone to it than others].

I shared about some of my battle with regret in the past and some ways the Lord helped me overcome. I shared from my journal and also shared lessons that might be useful. These are some of the highlights.

[Quiet time Journal: xx/xx/xx ]

As I rose at 2:00 am for quiet time, the Lord started first with this scripture to me.

Read John 3:4 [His voice had a stern tone to it. So I knew it was a rare morning of chastisement]

“Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Wale.

Remember that you are born again.
Being born again is a thing of the Spirit and Water.
Stop trying to enter into your mothers womb and redo it all over again, stop wasting so much time indulging REGRET and looking backwards trying to undo the past…it is not possible. For flesh is bound to this linear timeline. You can’t go back..not in the flesh!

I need you to come out of this ‘morass’…
I need you to come out of this graveyard…..
You are hindering me with your anxiety and regret.

Stop looking back in regret so much!
Instead delight in me!
Delight in me and in who I am!
Remember that 1 day to me is as 1000 year
and 1000 years as a day.

Consider the creation account of Gen 1. See how I accomplish things day by day.

Already there are fruitful and good things that I have done through you, things of the Spirit which flesh cannot produce.
Understand that 1 thing produced by Spirit is more than 1000 things produced in flesh! There is a problem with your metric [value] system!!

I want to enjoy the present with you…the journey in the day to day….stop denying me that!

Remember Romans 8:32
“He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will He not with Him also give us everything else?”

It is always my good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. But to receive the Kingdom requires a “mindset”. It requires a positive expectation (like the maid waiting on her master. Or the child waiting on the parent)…it requires “looking up”, and looking up is a ‘daily engagement’ that is why the prayer is “give us this day our daily bread”.

One who is born again…looks UP NOT backwards..

Remember I have told you many times..The life of the Kingdom..The Life in the Spirit is one that is lived from “the inside out” not the outside in.
The still waters that the shepherd leads you beside are on the inside……dwell and operate from there.

You yourself have preached it that Lazarus fell I’ll and died..Yet I resurrected Him and He reclined by me. His greater life and testimony began in Rest John 12:9 .Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews learned that Jesus was there. And they came not only because of Him, but also to see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead’

Have faith in me. Trust in my word and in my promise.

3 Useful Lessons to Consider

Lesson 1: Watch your words!

I’ve been told that we truly ought to be careful of overstating the waste of the past!! Watch your tongue or you might find yourself sounding humble but in truth you are actually dishonouring God’s work of grace in your life. Rather let your manner of speaking be “in spite of this and that, i am grateful for the grace of God in my life which has redeemed and enabled me to ….xxxxx“

Jesus foresaw Peter’s betrayal Luke 22:31-34, He went ahead of him v31, He went through it with Him, and waited for Him on the other side to fully resolve Him John 21:4-19.
His grace toward you and I are not as different and is infinitely more potent than all your past failures! If only you will engage Him and not eat the bread of regret.

Are your past sins beyond His grace to redeem? Are you worse than Rahab? Peter? Saul? David?

Lesson 2. God’s metric is far different from yours!

Ananias could not understand how God could seemingly overlook Saul’s atrocities.
Satan often tells us ‘these are the facts’ but Holy Spirit says ‘this is the truth!’
In Nehemiah 4:2 It was the enemy’s pleasure to point out the ‘burnt stones’ and the ‘broken down walls of Jerusalem‘ being clear evidence of God’s judgement upon Israel’s waywardness. YET the Spirit of the LORD speaking through the prophet Haggai was saying “The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.” Haggai‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭

The relevant question for today is: ‘have i truly repented and come under the Lordship of Jesus?‘ Am i walking worthy of my new life in Christ? Then satan has no justification to use my past against me.; doesn’t mean he won’t try, in fact he is counting on you not to know this truth!

Don’t agree to count yourself out, God doesn’t discount you!

Lesson 3: God can, God has, God will..

Satan may often plague your mind with regular reminders of all the devastation, the errors, the catastrophes that litter your life and why you are actually unworthy. Yet the Holy Spirit is saying: ‘I have already resolved it on the cross and resurrected you in glory with Christ. I am the great recoverer and even through these burnt stones of your past I can and will still showcase my abundant mercy and my unfailing love!’

Lesson 4. Win in the Battlefield of the mind.

I used to erroneously believe that the regular flashbacks I would often have in the course of the day or even doing outreaches were coincidental. It took me a long time to understand that they were deliberate grenades been lobbed my way by demons who wanted to continuously cripple me.

If satan battles you in this way, bat off the condemnation and respond to it with the word or with the cross. E.g speak christ affirming scriptures like Romans 8:30, 2 Cor 5:17 openly to your own hearing! This is how to fight the good fight of faith.

Summation

IT really is worth mentioning again. Jesus foresaw Peter’s failure Luke 22:31-34, He went ahead of him v31, He went through it with Him, and waited for Him on the other side to fully restore Him John 21:4-19. What amazing grace and amazing love! But what of Judas? Satan may say to your heart! Well David – one time murderer and adulterer himself declared about God in Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise”
