And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Bible Reading: Rev 1, Rev 4
This is a very simplistic approach but have you Ever tried waking up three children in a home? The first child wakes up as soon as you open the door, before you even call or touch them. The second child may need to be called once and maybe tapped once. The third child needs all the lights on, loud shouting, and to be dragged off the bed 😂. Even then, they are still only half awake.

This is a picture of the various levels of alertness/slumber to the call of Heaven we find in discipleship or even seasons we individually go through as disciples. We all snooze to the spirit at different times [because we all still have flesh & the cares of this world so easily besets us] yet our speed of response when we are called upon differ based on the degree of our present ‘conditioning’ [watchfulness].

Wilderness seasons are good for conditioning in spiritual alertness. In the isle of Patmos, John was so alert, he had an immediate response to the nudge of the Spirit at every instance.

There are certain lessons from His general posture which could aid us in conditioning ourselves into a further state of alertness to the call of the Spirit in our daily walk.

5 Things that Aid our Spiritual Alertness..

1: The Heart of Sonship & The Posture of Service | Rev 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

  • Sonship through Christ qualifies you to see what your Father is doing. No! you don’t need to be specially anointed or ‘mighty in the spirit’. Under the new covenant you have unfettered access to the father: raising your awareness level though is a question of how much closer you draw to Him. John 8:38
  • Being a Child/Son, yet making yourself available for Him to send, makes you ideal for regular contact from Heaven as a channel for Kingdom business. Rev 1:1
  • A servant waits [keeps a part of His mind, a portion of his heart and one of his ears pointed toward His master especially when He is out of His sight.]. This waiting comes with an ‘expectation’ which is essential for us in our walk with the Lord.

2: The Posture of Consecration | Rev 1:10
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet”‭‭

  • Being ‘in the Spirit’ is not about being weird or behaving holier than thou – but it is about doing the things which actively feed your Spirit man whilst abstaining from things that empower your flesh.
  • Regular fastingDedicated study of the wordmeditation on the wordpraying in tongues.
These are all spiritual disciplines which strengthen your Spirit man and raise your alertness level. A regular lifestyle of this is preferable to seasonal engagements.
  • As you add to your spirit, also be conscious to take away from your flesh [eyes/ears/heart/nose/mouth] the things which contaminate and defile. which can impair your signal and blunt your spiritual alertness – putting you into coma.
  • For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting“. Gal 6:8

3: The Posture of Watchfulness | Rev 4:1a
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven:

  • One all too common thing amongst new disciples in particular is that their dream/imagination space is regularly inundated with devilish & fearful revelations. Which in itself is often the output of a mind loaded with fear, culture and negative expectations.
  • One of the profits of having a renewed mind is that very often you will ‘set your mind on things aboveCol 3:2. Your mind must be trained not only to ‘take every thought captive2 Co 10:5 but to consciously substitute those thoughts with thoughts toward God and the kingdom in general.
  • John in Patmos was more focused on heaven that He was His present challenges in Patmos hence He was very alert to receive the signals from above.

Alert
I just received in my Spirit this moment to mention that there is someone who is reading this who need to get rid of certain items/articles/totems in their house which are demonic in nature and actively broadcast demonic signals which war with their Spirit man. Get rid of them so you can give yourself every chance at clear uninterrupted communications!!!! [Ask the Holy Spirit to point them out to you]

4: The Posture of (Swift) Obedience | Rev 1:9
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

  • Swift obedience [response time] to the word of the Lord and promptings in the inner man serve to sharpen and accelerate your spirit mans sensitivity.
  • When you are swift to obey God, Heaven – Earth and everything around you will also be swift to respond to you!

Conclusion

How quick are you to respond when Heaven beckons or when the Holy Spirit nudges you on the inside? Like one who is woken up from sleep, how long or how many times do you need to be prodded and stirred up before eventually responding?

John’s Patmos experience offers us useful gleanings…

Curious Question: When Christ comes for His bride in the rapture, will it be a sovereign work? Or will it be based on those who are watching and sensitive for Him???????

Grace and Peace to all.
