”And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.“
Luke 9:36 KJV
Main Reading: Luke 9:28-36
Outgrowing the simplicity of Jesus.
One of the greatest qualities of Jesus and the gospel of the kingdom is SIMPLICITY! Jesus is so simple to the extent that the longer we are in the faith [become so familiar with Him] the greater the risk we miss & lose sight of Him! [Mary thought it was the gardener at the tomb! John 20:14-16]
Too easily like rolling stones which gather moss and mud, we tend to become covered up in layers of “cultural norms”; “denominational norms”; “common practices”; “human idiosyncrasies” “ministry concepts” etc to the extent that we deviate in our pure resemblance of the biblical Christ and His gospel. Usually its often that
– we’ve grown much bigger than Him; – much more comfortable than Him; – and our message has become much more diluted/sophisticated than His!
This malaise often affects us all institutionally and individually.
[An institutional e.g when our church becomes so programmatic that it forgets the chief mission is missions & Discipleship!].
[ An Individual e.g when we get so caught up in the use of supporting items that our faith becomes Jesus+]
Peter, James and John awoke from sleep to see the glory and as they beheld Jesus with Moses and Elijah, Well-meaning Peter [like the rest of us] tried to add more to it than God prescribed! But the cloud covered them up and in the end Jesus was found alone!
Ask yourself this question: If my faith, prayer life, motives, service in the body were set on the scale and weighed today, would Jesus be found alone? Would it be only and all about Him?
In your closet how often are you found alone with Jesus?
Concluding Prayer:-
As we ramp up towards the conclusion of all things and the return of our Lord, may Jesus take you up as an individual and us as a body to the mountain experience once again!
Oh Lord strip me of my excesses; strip me of my embellishments; strip me of my selfish ambitions; strip me of every iota of superfluity that i have gathered or that has attached itself to me, leaving me with only what you have given me to glorify your name.
Oh Lord in my service strip me of fleshly proclivities, associations and ambitions which impulsively want to pervert the revelation of Christ Jesus and share in His glory!
Oh Lord, let all that concerns me be purified to the point that only Jesus and Jesus alone will remain!
Grace and Peace to us all.
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me". Gal 2:20
