“to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.”
Luke 1:27 KJV
Key Reading: Luke 1:26-56. Mathew 1:18-56
We are all Mary in the tangential sense that we all [men and women alike] have a womb through which the kingdom agenda can be fulfilled matt 6:10 .
IF we willingly consecrate our lives unto God, ‘The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee‘ Lk 1:35 as a result we conceive [impregnated with the seed of divine purpose]; we incubate [that divine purpose for the appointed time/season]; and then we deliver: [bringing forth that ‘holy thing’ that shows forth God’s praises 1 Pe 2:9 and advances His agenda in our generation.
Not every saint who conceives successfully carries to term & delivers. Many suffer miscarriage out of carelessness; abortion on the altar of self; and termination at the hands of Herod. Mary’s template however teaches us that one of the crucial success factors for those who will successfully carry to term and deliver that ‘Holy thing’ is that they must be espoused to Joseph!
Joseph in this context of delivering destiny is indicative of three things. [i] Joseph is the Word [ii] Joseph is the Mentor [iii] Joseph is the Midwife
Joseph as the Word
- If you will successfully bring forth that Holy thing, you will do well to be very intimate with the word [logos and rhema]. The revealed word of God you are intimate with will feed mother and baby [you and the burden you carry]
Matt 4:4 ‘But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’
Psalm 104:15 ‘And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart‘.
Joseph as the Mentor
- As much as many claim ‘it is an individual race’, Christ never intends for us to run this race alone. If you will successfully birth ‘that Holy thing’ you must be espoused to a Joseph who enkindles you upwards in your calling & character, causing ‘the babe in your womb to leap‘ and regularly impart you with the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
- Joseph will seasonally receive divine direction to take you and your baby away from Herod! Psalm 119:11 ‘Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee‘.
Joseph as the Midwife.
- Joseph has the required grace and anointing to midwife your pregnancy successfully to term [If you will follow him as he follows Christ] 1 Cor 11:1
- Often Joseph will be both an individual and a ‘body of saints’ who provide the right atmosphere [nursery] for you to take root downward in other to bear fruit upward.Isa 37:31
- Being espoused to Joseph will provide you with a direct system of accountability James 5:16 and also a safe environment to exercise yourself.
This system we currently run as a church is an aberration. It fosters membership not discipleship. Without a structure of accountability [vertically and horizontally] it is nearly impossible to actually be conformed to the image of Christ. - 1 Cor 14:26 ‘What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.’
There are many things to do with Joseph
- Proactively report your temptations and struggles
- Confess your sins.
- Break bread and receive the word.
- Discuss revelation and doctrine
- Receive assignments/spiritual tasks with regular updates.
- Receive discipline when necessary.
- Receive Godly counsel.
Have you done all of these this year with your Joseph?
