Mothers, please shut the door!!

⁴ And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”⁵ So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. ⁶ Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.

Happy Mother’s day sisters. Just a quick word of encouragement.

Even if sin and bondage came into the world through Eve’s transgression as the woman, Yet as she “arises into motherhood” (like Deborah arose) she (& by extension all mothers) shall also become the channel through which salvation & redemption will be delivered to all generations and the victory over the serpent shall be forever enforced. Ref: Gen 3:15. 1 Tim 2:15

A woman can be an extremely destructive force when she operates in modern womanhood [solely fleshy & worldly orientation & objectives] . But the same woman can also be a most potent force for change and redemption when she operates in Motherhood [as prescribed by the bible]. Please understand the difference in operations….In the former mode the serpent is never far & often in league, but in the latter mode: LOVE which is the most potent force is brought to bear against serpentine devastation’s.

You may observe today that families, societies & nations thrive when mothers thrive. But when the emphasis is placed on ‘womanhood’ in its current form over motherhood you very often witness decay and decadence beyond compare. Also take note that “motherhood” isn’t strictly about the act of childbearing in the physical sense, but also includes the capacity to conceive a divine objective (on behalf of others) and deliver on those objectives in such a way that leads men into destiny and success.

No matter how bad a foundation is/a nation is/a society is,…as long as there are mothers who who are willing and prepared to “bring forth Godly seed” and “that Holy thing” there will always be an opportunity for hope and redemption in that lineage, nation and peoples.

Mothers: There are doors to shut!!!!

In 2 Kings 4:4-5, the family were in a dilemma. The son of the prophet had died, leaving a debt which threatened to swallow up the lineage into slavery and ruin. She brought her case successfully to the prophet and complied with the instructions to the minutiae. What interests me today is verse 5 of our text which states that she “shut the door upon her and upon her sons”.

We often hear of and pray concerning “open doors” so much in Christianity today – but we rarely hear of shutting and closing doors behind us!!!!. Saints, there are doors to shut!!!! There is perhaps no greater demonstration of this than when God in Gen 7:18 shut Noah in the ark.

And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in…Gen 7:18

There are doors to shut if we must succeed in this distraction laden-ed world where all our faculties are under the relentless pressure from the world around us – which more often seek to defile and despoil us of our treasures.

Right from conception, to infancy to youth, the power of a mother to shape the destiny of children is immeasurable! There are certain doors if not shut have the potential of not only ruining the life of that child but even the destiny of a nation.

Doors can be shut through:
(1) Instructive wisdom Prov 31:1-8 (2) Intercessory prayers
(3) Prophetic declarations (4) Divinely inspired actions.

The mother in our text shut the door upon her and upon her son’s and then the expected miracle began to ensue. There are many miracles and answers waiting to flow from the jars and bowels of heaven but have not begun to because a door or some doors have not been shut!!!!

What doors remain open in your life? in the lives of your children and spouses? In your lineage and environment?.

Eve the 1st mother left the door open to the serpent! We know the result till today Gen 3:1-3. Lot’s wife was an absentee mother who always looked back and was not there to shutdown the foolish proposal of her husband to the mob who came to rape the angels. Yet there are those who got it right:-

• Shiphrah and Puah shut the door of the midwifery to Pharaoh and because of this Israel greatly multiplied and waxed mighty Exo 1:15-21
• Elisabeth prophetically shut the door to the serpent manifesting through the kindred spirit seeking to punctuate the destiny of John the baptist. She stood firm and prophetically declared “NOT SO” insisting on the perfect will of God. Luke 1:60-63
• Sarah prayerfully shut the door of inheritance to the Son of the Bondwoman Gen 21:10
• Abigail shut the door to bloodshed and wrath from David’s hand against her household through divinely inspired actions 1 Sam 25
• Deborah shut the door to national defeat by operating in her divine calling and rousing up the men of Israel to war at the gates through prophetic intercessions. Yet without usurping her responsibility as wife of Lapidoth. Judges 5.
• Jael through simple living yet wholly equipped with the gifts and gracings of God, shut the door to generational defeat in killing Sisera tormentor of Israel.
• Ruth shut the door permanently to her past life/hurts and even her old ways. In so doing was able to wholly commit to Naomi without distractions and compromise. She was redeemed by Boaz and grafted into the lineage of the messiah.

Mother’s day is a time to celebrate and rejoice in the wonderful blessing of Mothers to us all.

Dear sisters and mothers in Christ, In all your celebrations, spare a thought for the mother in our text. Consider the inherent power that lies in motherhood and carefully meditate on doors that need to be shut in our families, homes and the church. It is not too late to act that the miracles may begin to flow. We are counting on you…..

May the Holy Spirit inspire and empower you as you do this in Jesus name.
