“But as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be anxious about them, for they have been found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father’s house?” 1 Sam 9:20
Core Text: 1 Samuel 9. 1 Samuel 10
Men all too often spend life in futile pursuits which have no bearing in eternity. Still God in His infinite mercies providentially interferes sometimes through ‘setbacks’ to re-direct us unto the path of true life via the high place of Samuel.
Samuel is the revealed word, within whom the blueprints for ‘life more abundantly’ John 10:10 resides. Proper engagement of Samuel will deliver 3 things unto us that will give us a chance at the eternally fruitful life for which we were foreordained.
1: The Bread of Life in exchange for our anxieties (lost donkeys) which fuel our pursuits.
“But as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be anxious about them, for they have been found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father’s house?”” I Samuel 9:20 NKJV
- First we must concede to die to our former ‘cares’ & ‘anxieties’ and ‘all other things’ which we sought after…matt 6:33
- Only then will our hearts have space to receive the bread that ‘strengthens the heart of man’. Psa 104:15
- Accepting Samuel’s unleavened bread (the whole truth) will wholly realign our priorities unto Kingdom cares & pursuits: translating us from Matt 11:28 unto Matt 12:29.
2: The Oil of Unction (Anointing) in exchange for the things/persons we have relied upon hitherto
“As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.” And he went on. “But you stand here awhile, that I may announce to you the word of God.”” I Samuel 9:27 NKJV
- Secondly we must be separated from the things | persons | systems we formerly depended on (which served us in certain seasons) unto sole-reliance on God.
- Everyone sent of God went through a stage of separation from their ‘comforts’. Moses. Joseph, David. Paul. Peter.
- If we count the costs and pay the price, the ability to function will be released upon us in the form of the anointing oil upon our heads; for God equips everyone whom He sends.
3: to turn you into another man with a purposed driven life & a place in the body where you function and live for more than yourself.
“After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying. Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.” I Samuel 10:5-6 NKJV
- Finally Samuel sends us on a new pursuit, a kingdom driven errand. Helping us recognise our place in the body and giving us the charge required to pour into others and be poured into.
- We are commissioned unto a life that is more about serving Gods purpose in others as opposed to our former self contained life.
- God’s agenda to change us into a new man is achieved.
Round Up
400 men came to David at Adulam (debtors , distressed, discontented) and in the course of engaging David, they became ‘mighty men of valor’. Onesimus became ‘useful’ after his time with Paul.
God providentially lays systems down in certain seasons & situations with the intent of forming us who were formerly helpless into men of helps. etc These systems often lay in men like Samuel/David/Paul. If we can focus & pay the requisite price for every stage of dealings, We will be translated into the new man we were foreordained to be.
Saul’s engagement with Samuel is one such template.
Don’t get stuck in any stage because you refuse to do what is required to be translated through.
Grace to us all.
